Kapittel
Stavanger International Festival
of Literature and Freedom of Speech

Welcome to yet another Kapittel festival, the 19th of its kind, based at Sølvberget, Stavanger Cultural Centre.

In 2013 the festival Kapittel 12 is taking place between September 18. and 22. This year’s festival theme will be voice.

Kapittel is a large, well established festival with a general scope, activities for most target groups and over 10 000 visitors annually. Our founding principle is to discover and reveal connections between the arts and the world and to protect the fundamental right to freedom of expression. At Kapittel you encounter new literature, new music and new expressions from around the globe, and you get the chance to participate in debates about current issues. We offer an extensive children’s program, an incorporated documentary film festival, specialized seminars and popular open readings, panel debates and lectures.

Kapittel has been visited by, among others, Patrick Maguire, Mircea Cartarescu, Mikhail Shishkin, Siri Hustvedt, Nadine Gordimer, Yu Hua, Yang Lian, Tariq Ali, Jacques Derrida, Nuruddin Farah, Sefi Atta, Nawal El Saadawi, Ben Okri, Russel Banks, Linton Kwesi Johnson, and Toni Blackman.
